Lobelia is a dramatic little flower that blooms in white, pink, blue and red. The flowers are comprised of five petals, the “upper lip” of two petals and a “lower lip” of three petals, all joined in a long nectar tube that attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. There are over 400 species of lobelias. This little flower symbolises Distinction. In Victorian England, the flower communicated anger and bitterness owing to is taste but in the Language of Flowers – this is meant to convey that the person you are giving the flower to is distinct in their persona.
