About Alankaara
Alankaara began with a simple fascination: what if the fleeting beauty of nature could be held onto a little longer? It is an idea I have pondered since my early graduation days.
Born in Madras, we create handcrafted jewellery and keepsakes inspired by nature, memory and Indian craftsmanship. Our work is deeply influenced by floriography, the language of flowers, and the way flowers have carried meaning through art and history. We are fascinated by how a flower can represent love, remembrance, hope, grief or celebration without saying a word. From flowers and botanicals to meaningful personal objects, we transform fleeting moments into pieces that can be worn, gifted and kept.
We are also a spiritual bunch, and believe that flowers carry a symbolic weight far beyond their beauty. For us, they are not simply materials to work with. They are storytellers, reminders and little pieces of nature that connect us to something larger than ourselves.
Milestones & Impact
Over the years, Alankaara India has handcrafted and shipped more than a lakh pieces of jewellery. We have created custom orders for companies including Levi’s, Ray Ban, Titan and Meta, and our pieces have found their way into countless weddings, celebrations and events as meaningful return gifts.
Our jewellery has also been styled on a variety of celebrities, while Alankaara has taken its work beyond India with shows in Thailand and Singapore. We have been featured in more than 20 articles across various media houses, including Vogue.
In our early years, our association with IFAD Italy helped increase the revenue of a tsunami-affected artisan cluster in Kanyakumari by almost 92%. The design and production template we developed continues to be used by multiple Women Self Help Groups in the region.
"A flower can be delicate and still create change."
Handmade with Intention
Our work begins on paper. Each design is individually conceived, sketched and experimented with before it takes physical form.
Alongside our studio in Madras, we work with a woodworking unit in Pondicherry and a metalsmithing unit in Jaipur, where these ideas are translated into the frameworks that become the foundation for our pieces. It is within these carefully crafted forms that we work our magic with resin, flowers, botanicals and everything else that nature offers us.
Every Alankaara piece is made slowly and thoughtfully. There are many hands, many experiments and many hours behind each creation, from the first sketch to the final piece. We believe handmade should mean made with intention, not simply assembled.
Alankaara. Keeping beautiful things from becoming forgotten things.
Conscious Making
We believe beautiful things should be made responsibly. We create in small batches, work with natural materials wherever possible, and support skilled Indian artisans and makers.
Our packaging is designed with the same thoughtfulness, using biodegradable materials wherever possible. We are continually looking for better ways to reduce waste, make consciously and create products that are meant to be treasured for a long time.
Nature inspires what we make. Craft shapes how we make it. Responsibility guides why we make it.

The People Behind the Pieces
Every Alankaara piece carries the hands, heart, and spirit of our close-knit family of artisans, organisers, and creators.
Amrita is the founder and the brain behind Alankaara. In 2015, at 22 and fresh out of post graduation in Art and Design, she began her journey after working as a merchandiser at a silk export company and then a linen company, both founded and led by women who inspired her to build something of her own.
Alankaara began in her father’s car park garage at home, growing from small exhibitions to an old rented house, and from a team of one to the many hands that make Alankaara today. Ten years on, she believes in growing slowly, taking pauses, designing with whimsy, meeting challenges with a deep breath and, above all, staying true to her integrity.
"When you stay true to your core, there is nothing that can topple you."
Babu Sir is our in-house Aasari and metalsmith, carrying forward a family legacy of craftsmanship that began with his 75-year-old father, who has worked with gold and silver for nearly 60 years. I first met him at Tanishq, where I noticed him browsing contemporary metalsmithing techniques on Pinterest and sensed his longing to create something beyond the mainstream.
When I told him about Alankaara and showed him the African Dandelion necklace I was wearing, his eyes lit up and he eagerly agreed to make samples for us. Since then, he has become an integral part of every Alankaara piece, bringing endless ideas, curiosity and a desire to create differently.
"Quite possibly the most fashionable Aasari with an unmatched love for floral shirts!"
Our ray of sunshine, Saiamma, has been with us for longer than we can imagine, filling the studio with laughter, jokes and the best tea. She has faced some of life’s biggest losses but continues to show up with an incredible spirit, always eager to learn and try.
An excellent organiser, she somehow keeps both the studio and all of us in order, from finding the stapler to making sure everyone has eaten and had enough water. She is, quite simply, Alankaara’s very own mother.
"Filling every corner of the studio with laughter, warmth, and the best tea."
From a quiet, timid woman who once tried to make herself invisible to the loudest laugh in the studio, Vennila has come a long way with us. She joined us as a temporary helping hand, but her nimble fingers, meticulous work and genuine love for what she does quickly made her an indispensable part of the team.
Her dedication is remarkable, and watching her work has often reminded us to keep going even on the days when we feel like giving up. You do not always have to look far for heroes; sometimes, they are right beside you.
"Nimble fingers, meticulous work and the loudest laugh in the room."
Praneetha joined Alankaara when we were drowning in paperwork and a backlog of communication. An Excel whiz, she now keeps track of stock, bills, invoices, auditors, lawyers and all the little details that keep our backend running smoothly.
Despite being in the most paperwork-heavy department, she always has a pleasant smile and the quietest laugh in the studio. Give it six months, though, and we suspect the Alankaara effect will turn even her into a comedian, because around here, coffee breaks inevitably become laughter therapy, biscuit debates and plenty of good-natured chaos.
"An Excel whiz keeping every detail and timeline running seamlessly."
